Where I live, it can get pretty cold, so slippers aren’t just a preference, they’re a must. I look for slippers that are comfortable without being clunky, and that are secure, slip-resistant, and won’t get in the way on the couch.
The Bombas slippers sound like they offer just that. But do they live up to the hype? I’ll tell you about my experience with the Gripper Slippers, starting with the very first step: shipping.
Shipping
My Bombas order arrived about 10 days after ordering online. That’s pretty normal for where I live in Canada, and most products I buy from US companies usually take about the same amount of time if they ship standard.
Receiving & My Thoughts On Packaging
My Bombas slippers arrived in plain shipping packaging. Since they are slippers, they don’t need any extra padding, but they did come in a drawstring fabric travel bag, which was a nice addition.
I like it when brands have minimal packaging, and Bombas actually uses 100% recycled materials for their packaging.
As a certified B Corporation, they are dedicated to doing better and achieve a B Corp score of 96.6/100. For comparison, the average B Corporation has a score of 50/100.
My First Impressions
When I took my Bombas slippers out of my travel bag for the first time, I was immediately smitten by the color. I opted for a combination of cobalt blue and purple, which is pretty darn cute. The slippers were folded and flat, which meant they were easy to transport. I mean, who has room for another pair of shoes in their hand luggage? Bombas gets an instant point from me for this feature.
At first glance, I was also a fan of the material. The knitted fabric on the outside feels sturdy, while the fluffy material on the inside is incredibly cozy. Then I put them on. Scroll down to my review of the Bombas slippers to see what happened next.
Bombas Slippers Review
Bombas produces three types of slippers: sherpa-lined, cable-knit and traditional design. All have the same fit as slippers and have silicone grips on the bottom. I tried the traditional Women’s Gripper Slippers. You can read about my experience with them below.
Bombas Gripper Slippers Review
I received a free pair of the Women’s Gripper Slipper in size M in Moon Lagoon Bristol Blue. Packaged in a cloth bag, the slipper-sock hybrids have a unique shape and look like little booties.
When I put them on, I liked the soft, brushed lining and immediately felt the cushioning under my feet. I own other sock slippers that have no padding and I can tell you it makes a big difference!
I didn’t slip on my wooden floors and I liked that they sat securely and firmly on my foot. Unlike clunky slippers, I had the comfort of socks in these shoes and still felt secure.
I’ve read that the Gripper Slippers shrink about a ½ size when washed, so it’s something to consider when buying. They come in sizes XS-L for women and M-XL for men. They also come in 8 cool colours for women and 6 colours for men, which make for fun lounging.
Something else I noticed about the Gripper Slippers is their flat design. This means you can easily store them in a drawer or pack them for a trip, and if you’re travelling, the cloth bag is very handy.
My favourite thing about the Bombas slippers is the material they are made from. The blend of acrylic, nylon and wool with a viscose, polyester and elastane lining makes them incredibly comfortable.
After wearing them for a few hours, I also realised that this fabric blend is very breathable and my feet felt cosy but also cool. This is a rarity for any type of slipper. Way to go, Bombas. You can get your own pair for $45.
I haven’t tried the Cable Knit Gripper Slippers or the Sherpa Lined Gripper Slippers, but they are $48 and $50 respectively.
What I Think About Bombas Slippers
When I first put on the Bombas Gripper Slippers, I thought they were pretty basic. As I wore them around the house and while lounging, I developed a deep love for these cosy creatures. Now I’m obsessed with them and know why they have over 14,500 reviews.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: these are no ordinary slippers. Although they may appear simple at first glance, there is a lot of design in their construction, fit and feel.
Although Bombas is not the first company to make slipper socks, I think their slippers are unlike any others I’ve ever tried. What did I like so much about them? You’ll find out in the next section of this Bombas slipper review.
What I Liked About Bombas Slippers
It gets very cold where I live, so I always have a pair of slippers with me. But here’s the thing… I don’t like slippers in the style of shoes. They’re too clunky for me, and since I like to put my feet up, the whole ‘shoes on the couch’ concept prevents me from really relaxing.
I really like that the Bombas Slippers are sock-like, but still feel like real slippers.
Although they are socks, they have a thick cushion on the bottom so they are more comfortable than socks, and they are definitely cosier. This cushion feels heavenly when you stand on them, which means they are very comfortable when you are standing in the kitchen to cook or when you are walking around the house.
The handle on the bottom is also a nice touch. I have wooden floors which can get quite slippery when I’m wearing socks, but I haven’t noticed any slipping when wearing these shoes.
Perhaps what I like best about the Gripper Slippers is that they keep my feet warm, but don’t feel sweaty.
This is something I don’t like about my other slippers, and I have to take them off regularly to get some air. As you can imagine, this is not ideal, which is why I really appreciate the design of Bombas Slippers.
Would I recommend this brand to others?
Bombas is one of the brands I often recommend because they are so good. Like so many others who support them, I appreciate the fact that they donate socks to homeless shelters, but not just any cheap socks, but their socks, which are of excellent quality.
Sure they could sell cheap products and donate the same inferior items, but why would they do that when they have an excellent, long lasting product?
I’m not 100% sure if Bombas donates a pair of slippers for every pair purchased, but they certainly give back – so far they’ve donated 75 million (yes, million) items to those in need.
What’s more, Bombas is a certified B Corporation, which means they adhere to the highest standards for production and operations. Packaging is recycled, labour is ethical, and sustainable fabrics are used throughout the collection.
Who Are Bombas Slippers For?
Bombas slippers are for anyone who wants a better kind of slipper. When I say ‘better kind’, I mean that they are as altruistic as they are adorable and as cosy as they are smart. If you find normal slippers either too hot or constantly falling off your feet, you’ll love these.
